Rhythm’s veterinarians are accredited with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and are able to offer Coggins (EIA) testing and health paper certificates for export to the United States. Please be sure to book appointments for Coggins and export certificates at least 10 business days prior to the departure date to ensure enough time for shipping samples and processing of paperwork.

Coggins Testing

Coggins testing generally takes 2-5 business days to process and is valid for export for 6 months. Accurate information about the horse and its location is needed to be able to submit and complete the Coggins test. Once booked, an information form will be emailed, which we will require to be filled out and returned prior to the appointment.

Once processed, your Coggins results will be accessible on ‘My VetLink’ account electronically. Your VetLink’ account will be linked to the email we have on file for you, so please ensure your information is current with us.

Health Papers

A negative Coggins test result and signed health certificate are required before you are able to export a horse to the United States.

Once a veterinarian completes the negative Coggins test and health certificate, the health certificate will need to be submitted and signed by CFIA. Once booked, an information form will be emailed, which we will require to be filled out and returned prior to the appointment.

The export health papers take up to 10 business days to process and are valid for 30 days from the date of veterinary examination to the date of crossing the border.

If your horse already has a negative Coggins that is less than 6 months prior to the date of border crossing, you will not need to get a Coggins test redone. However, we will require the Coggins certificate to be able to complete the export documents with the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency).
